What do you wish your equipment could talk to?

One of the reasons we built DataCaster was because we kept seeing the same problem: the data already existed.

  • It was in a SQL database.
  • It was sitting in a PLC.
  • It was available through an API.
  • It was buried in an OPC UA server.

The challenge wasn’t collecting more data. It was getting the data people already had and displaying it where it could actually be useful.

Today, DataCaster can connect to:

  • Microsoft SQL Server
  • PostgreSQL
  • OPC UA
  • Allen-Bradley PLCs
  • APIs
  • Manual data entry

We’ve used those connections to pull production and order information from databases, read live values from PLCs, and even track the International Space Station through a public API, but we’re not done.

We have another connectivity option coming in the next couple of weeks, but we’re also trying to decide what should come after that.

Here’s the question:

What’s the system, protocol, machine, or data source in your facility that you wish was easier to talk to?

Modbus? MQTT? MySQL? Siemens? Beckhoff? Omron? An ERP? Something completely different?

Tell us what we’re missing.

After all, the best ideas for DataCaster tend to come from the people actually trying to use their data.
